life after doordash

On December 19th , the long awaited renovation of my kitchen began. The day before the contractor started demolition of the cabinets and island that would be replaced, the plumber disconnected my range and my refrigerator was moved out of my kitchen and plugged in to an outlet by a window.

I thought I could survive a few weeks. I already routinely ordered my groceries online. I had a toaster oven, still had use of my refrigerator, and I could buy an electric kettle for my daily tea.  I would be fine.

At first I did fairly well. But the toaster oven quickly revealed its limitations. I couldn’t fry a burger. Trying to grill a chicken breast filled the apartment with smoke. I couldn’t make rice or cook vegetables. So I turned to the only option that promised the full spectrum of the food pyramid: Doordash. Sure there would be exorbitant delivery fees and tips but I would have variety and save myself from a never ending meals of toast.

It was great, until it wasn’t. 8 weeks, $488, and 5 pounds later I am finally able to get back to cooking, now in a spanking brand new kitchen.
