my reintroduction to paul simon
This morning while sifting through a sink full of dirty dishes in search of a pot to clean for Cream of Wheat, I found myself humming “Slip Sliding Away”. Someone had mentioned that song in the comments of a YouTube stream I was watching and my silly brain latched right onto it.
I thought, I always liked that song. I should download it.
Then I started thinking about other Paul Simon songs I know, namely “Kodachrome” which is the only one I had downloaded. I love that song… Maybe that was subliminally why I went in the direction of Nikon rather than Canon??? No Lisa’s Silly Brain; there is such thing as coincidence.
On iTunes, “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard” is featured as one of the top sellers. That upbeat little ditty instantly makes me smile. “Still Crazy After All These Years” warms my heart but in a melancholy way that makes my eyes ache and want to cry.
And I’m thinking Man, where have all the great songwriters gone? Paul Simon, James Taylor, Cat Stevens… I still can’t listen to “Here We Are” on the album “JT” because it was featured in a scene on James at 15 and the nostalgia is too much.
I like a few of Simon and Garfunkel songs, like them a lot, but wouldn’t call myself a “fan”. I wouldn’t call myself a Paul Simon fan either but if someone’s music hits me that hard in the right places, how can I not be?
So here’s my new Paul Simon inventory:
Kodachrome
Still Crazy After All These Years
My Little Town
Night Games
Some Folks’ Lives Roll Easy
Silent Eyes
Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard
