cream of wheat

I’ve always been highly susceptible to the suggestions in marketing campaigns but my latest compulsion was fueled through word of mouth.

I was at brunch last week — outside of my home! with other people! — and the conversation turned to breakfast meal patterns. Someone mentioned how they have oatmeal every day and everyone remarked that, at some point in their life, they had done the same. I added that, as I kid, I always preferred Cream of Wheat to oatmeal but hadn’t had it in many years. Probably not since I lived in Hoboken.

A couple of days later I added a box to my grocery shopping.

I’ve had a bowl for breakfast every day since then. Sometimes I do that, binge on something until I never want to see or smell it again. Before I went to Vietnam it was Cheetohs, which I haven’t had since. But I don’t want that to happen to my precious Cream of Wheat, so when I finish this box, I won’t immediately replace it. Rather, I’ll give it a beat so I can appreciate the novelty all over again.
